February Resolutions

Happy Leap Year!

I don't understand myself sometimes... Last month I had the hardest time reading the one book for my resolution. It wasn't that the book was not interesting... I guess I just had trouble last month getting into a reading mood. This month has been totally different! I have actually read 3 books in this short month!

Books for February...
Night Circus
Wintergirls - This ended up being the most depressing book ever. Wouldn't recommend it!
The Girl on the Train

Blake and I continued to have fun this month also! It has been the shortest month of the year, but it seems like a long time ago since his b-day. Here is how we enjoyed the month together...

His bday party date
Superbowl Party with his buddy Hunter and Family
VDay Date - to the mall and out to eat
Park and Ice Cream
Movie Night at home - watching The Good Dinosaur
Recovering from being sick together... blah. We got 3 days at home together from work/preschool.

March is looking to be one of the best months yet. The weather is already starting to turn warmer and we have already ejoyed a few afternoons outside! It's also my birthday month... the big 3-0!!

Lion King Musical

A little dream of mine came true this week... I finally got to see the Lion King Musical that has been known on Broadway for so long! And I was lucky enough to enjoy it with my dad... seemed only natural since we have seen a ton of musicals and plays together over the years. It was such a great performance and was full of raw talent! I loved it so much! I can't wait until Blake is old enough to enjoy things like this with me. :)

Blake's Four Year Old Check Up

Blake being 4 has been a whirlwind! It is like he turned into a full blown little boy overnight! I almost can't believe it! He is the biggest blessing and is always putting a smile on my face. Little does he know it, but he is a miracle in so many people's lives!!!

Our first check up appointment got cancelled because of some icy weather, so we tried again yesterday! He was such a big boy visiting Dr. Jenna. Talk about time flying.... Dr. Jenna has been seeing Blake since he was 6 months old! We are so lucky to have her!

Blake measured in a 38 pounds! Wow! He is also a little over 3 feet. He will for sure be a tall one. His weight was in the 88th percentile and his height was in the 76th percentile of kids his age.

He had a little common cold this time, so we opted to have his prekindergarten immunizations next time. Thankfully we still have a full year before we have to worry about that!

They also checked his vision for the first time with a picture eye chart. Thankfully he still has great vision. They say his eyes are still developing so we will see what its like next year. Fingers crossed!

Here are a few little facts about our current 4 year old...

  • He loves preschool at the Kids Educational Center - now in the Pre-K class with Ms. Sabrina
  • He has his best friend Hunter and many other little buddies that he loves to play with.
  • He is currently still maintaining his obsession with superheros and that's the theme of his room.
  • He also loves legos, building blocks, forts, dinosaurs, and Paw Patrol toys
  • He still doesn't like for me to sing but he is starting to enjoy it himself. He loves when the "music man" comes to his preschool class.
  • He still hates for his hair to be touched, washed, or cut.... we do the best we can. Haha.
  • He LOVES his grandparents. They are the best babysitters and do so many fun things with him.
  • He sleeps all night... but has the bad habit of climing in mommy's bed everynight to snuggle. I can't complain. :)
  • He only will drink milk and water. Apparently juice is gross. His dentist loves him for that.
  • He does have a sassy personality.... blame me or his red hair. Take your pick. Haha.
  • Outside is his favorite place to be. We have a scooter and bike waiting for the sunshine!
  • We are hoping to start him in a little pre T-Ball class this summer... looks like baseball is his favorite.
  •  He is very independent, but is smart enough to know when to have mommy baby him.
  • He is a very sensitive boy... always wanting people to be happy and he hates time out!
  • He is learning to recognize and write his ABC's and actually has homework from preschool!
  • He can count to almost 20.
  • We still read a few books every night before bed time.

As I watch Blake grow up, I couldn't be more proud! I know there are plenty of things that I messed up in my life, but being a mommy to this little boy is one thing I did right! He is perfect. He is smart. He is amazing and I love every moment I have with him!!

Super Bowl 50

Ok.. Before I get to the Super Bowl stuff.... Can you please check out this sunset?!?!? How blessed are we to have this as our backyard?!?!?! I'm so in love!

Ok, back to the Super Bowl. The Carolina Panthers made it this year and everyone in North Carolina was so excited!!! Blake and I were invited to HIS friend, Hunter's house for the Super Bowl party. Haha! We are really getting to know Hunter's family and I just love them. And Blake and Hunter are two peas in a pod. They live right down the road from us and it is so nice to make new friends like them. We had a great time celebrating...even though the Panthers didn't win. Next Year!

Blake Turns 4

Today is a special day... my baby boy turns four. How is that even possible?!?!!? It literally just seems like yesterday that he was crawling. And look at him now... he is a little man!!!

This year was his first birthday party outside of the home and the first one that we invited little friends to! Blake of course picked an Avengers/Superhero theme. I booked an entire room at Jumpin Beans so that we could let the kids enjoy a whole bouncer to themselves while we parents supervised and chatted. Everything worked out beautifully. Blake had a blast and loved playing with his friends! His preschool teacher even showed up, which was awesome and Blake loved having all of his favorite people in one room together. He sure is one loved little boy!!!

Blake loved having his best friend, Hunter, there. They are two peas in a pod. I have a picture of Hunter's bday with Blake sitting right beside him. Adorable!

Typical four year old... he was obsessed with opening presents!

I worked really hard behind the scenes to fit the theme that Blake asked for. check out that cake! Yum! And his friends left the party with awesome superhero treat bags.

Aunt T loves her little superhero!

Blake literally has some of the best friends any kid could ask for. As a parent, this picture just makes me smile! What more could I ask for?!

And at the end of the day, thank goodness for supermoms! :)

Blake and I have always had a special bond. I mean lets face it, he has been my best friend for the past 4 years! I am so proud of him! He has experienced so much in his little four years and he has the whole world ahead of him. The love I have for him is indescribable. I am grateful that we get to continue laughing and loving and being best buddies!

January Resolutions...

And the tradition continues...

This month was REALLY hard for me on a personal level and there was a chance that I didn't think I was going to be able to read a book this month. Something about being still and silent was just hard for me without shrinking into my own thoughts and pains in my heart. Thankfully I was able to renew my book at the library and I was FINALLY able to get through the whole thing. I am so glad I was able too as well because it was one of my favorite books by my favorite author. The book is called The Last Letter from your Lover by JoJo Moyes. That girl can write a page turner that keeps you guessing until the very end. I love it. This book touched about every emotion. I laughed, loved, cried, experienced heartbreak... everything. I was so attached to these characters and this plot. JoJo Moyes has a way of capturing her readers like that. Although it took me literally all month to read this book, it was somewhat healing at the same time. Even though I was reading for short periods of time, those moments were little escapes from stress that I needed. I love how books can do that for you!

My favorite resolution was going on a few mommy/son dates with Blake per month. I am so freaking happy that I made this resolution. These "dates" with Blake did about as much healing for me than anything else could have. That little boy has my heart. Spending time with him is the absolute best! Here is a glimpse at some of our dates...
  • Chinese Lantern Festival in Cary, NC
  • Stay at home ice cream night
  • Ice Day Sledding
  • Movie date to see Norm of the North
  • Birthday Party!
Stay tuned to next month. I already have a head start on my new book and it's just magical. Literally. And I have some awesome mommy/son dates planned for this month and a few surprises for the months ahead as well! January hit my life pretty hard, but I think I am starting to see the light in February!
