Livin on the "Edge"

The time has come... Blake and I have a new car!!

Being on a single income, I have been planning on upgrading our car for about a year now! This has been a long time coming and for once I actually feel like my research and preparation really paid off! I was able to trade in my 2006 Jeep and get a 2015 Ford Edge!!! We are cruising in style! There are so many features on that SUV that I am not used to... in fact I was thrilled it didn't rain on the way home because I wouldn't have even known how to turn the wipers on. HAHA! Blake was just thrilled to be out of there... he wasn't a fan of car shopping. I don't blame him.

And yes, this is a moment that I am proud of myself! I am a working single mom and I am so grateful I can provide these things for myself and my son and still be financially smart!! Strict budget and cutting out credit card debt! Loving the direction I am going in my life!

First Day of Spring

This weekend marks the first days of Spring!!! (and it's the coldest days of the week...go figure!). Blake and I got in the mood by getting a little crafty!

We made Spring cupcakes. And yes, I made these! Shocking, I know! Blake loved them because the cupcake part was blue - his favorite color. He also liked the icing because he has developed a big sweet tooth! Haha. I was just excited they didn't look like a smurf with a green afro! Nailed it!!!

We also broke out the plastic eggs and played a learning game. I put letters on each half of the eggs and Blake had to match them up. He had a great time trying to find the halves and then put them together. The alphabet is a beast to teach to an energetic 4 year old boy... but we try! :)

Happy Spring! We are very excited about the adventures ahead. Next week starts our Spring Break and we are really happy about that!

Me, Myself, and I

I don't post many personal things on our family blog, but I felt like this was important enough...

I have been reading an awesome book about focusing on yourself... and no, that does not mean being selfish. It means you make yourself a priority so that you can be the best person for yourself and others. It is essential in accomplishing my goals and dreams.

So, I have been concentrating on things like self love, meditation, positive thoughts and more. It does a world of difference when you take care of yourself first! For the longest time I have thought that I have always had to put others first. I thought that I had to drain myself and always make others happy. NO!!! It's kind of like what they tell you in an emergency situation- You have to care/protect yourself first in order to help others! In order to be a better mom, friend, teacher, and more I have to take care of myself!

It's been a few weeks and this new "way of living" has made a world of difference! So, be awesome and love yourself! You will be happy you did! :)

Spring Is Here

I have to say I was VERY disappointed with this year's Winter. It was not even a Winter... more like a little ice storm and that was it. Ugh! But Spring is here now and in full bloom, so we are taking advantage of the warm weather.

Blake is really enjoying practicing baseball. He will be an All-Star for sure! The kid has natural talent! I am not surprised since I played softball and Ryan played baseball.

For our Mommy and Son date this week we went to the park and the library. It was so nice to play outside for about an hour and then go inside to read books and cool off. I love that Blake will still let me play with him on the slide and he will let me read books with him at the library. We are two peas in a pod. :) Toddler life is so mucu more fun that adult life!

Dirty Thirty

Well...the secret is out... I turned 30 on March 7th. Sigh. You know how each year people ask you if you feel another year older? This year the answer is YES!!! I 100% feel another year older. I have suffered from shingles, allergies, knee pains, and forgetfulness. Is this 30?!?! Haha!

Thankfully I had lots of people to help offset the aging process. My students decided to surprise me for my 30th. They got someone to open my room for them while I was in a meeting. They decorated it with everything 30 and then surprised me when I came back. They even had a cookie cake with candles. It was everything adorable and I pure cried at how thoughtful it was of them. I totally love my students!!!

My girlfriends met me for a brunch with the kiddos. It is just a perfect reminder of how grateful I am for my girlfriends. They are honestly my backbone. They keep me going when I feel down and they give me a push when I want to stop. And I like to think I do the same for them, too. :) We didn't get a group picture.. I guess we were distracted with the kids.

My family, of course, made the day special for me with dinner and cake. Cake is my favorite part!! Blake helped me blow out the candles and open my gifts.

Maybe 30 won't be totally horrible ;)
